With friends in Senegal

I flew to Senegal straight from Morocco - you can check out the photo report from there here. In Dakar, I was met by friends from high school, one of whom had already been working in Senegal for several years. That meant we essentially had a local guide, which proved incredibly useful. Senegal is quite a safe country, but it is a bit more chaotic Africa after all, so knowing someone who can navigate local situations is often priceless.
Together, we explored Dakar’s cultural scene, headed south to discover fishing towns and the Saloum River Delta, spent a night in the desert, and finally visited a local safari park. There, Czech conservationists have long been working to protect the giant eland (Derby’s eland), the largest antelope in the world.
Did you know that Dakar is home to a bronze statue larger than the Statue of Liberty? It’s called The African Renaissance Monument, was sponsored by North Korea (!), and it’s absolutely ridiculous :D
