I crossed the Atlantic for the second time in September 2019. The first time was about ten years earlier, back when my photographic ambitions were still in their infancy. This time, though, I wasn’t so much drawn to the famous skyscrapers and bridges as I had been before - I was mainly interested in everyday life on the city’s streets. Evenings in SoHo, cafés and artists in Greenwich Village, the buzz of Chinatown.

If I researched anything about New York before this second trip, it was the stories of legendary New York photographers. Where did Joel Meyerowitz shoot? Where was that Elliott Erwitt photo taken? I need to see that place. And that’s how this black-and-white photo report from New York came to be. Hopefully, the atmosphere of this city comes through - even across a screen.
